We are seeking a Lead Teacher to join our team who has the ability to teach all core subjects (ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science/STEAM) to a class of approximately 25 students utilizing an inquiry-based instruction framework. This teacher will also collaborate with the grade-level lead teacher, as well as the shared assistant teacher.


Bachelor’s degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
Knowledge of different units of study and interest in designing rich and rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum using a backwards-planning framework (Teaching for Understanding, Understanding by Design, etc.) to address a range of diverse learners.


Experience in implementing an array of best practices related to inquiry and workshop-based instruction.
An understanding of the Common Core and California State Content Standards.
Ability to design and/or use a variety of assessment tools and techniques to guide instruction.
Demonstrated success in differentiating instruction in public school classroom settings
Interest in working in a school community with a high degree of parent/family participation.
Commitment and ability to attend committee meetings, lead school-wide initiatives, utilize parents as volunteers in the classroom and attend occasional evening meetings.

The Contra Costa Jewish Day School is a K-8 independent school with approximately 170 students, accredited by the California Association of Independent Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.  We are seeking Lower School Teacher candidates for the 2023-2024 school year in General Studies, to include Language Arts,  Humanities, Math, Science, Social Emotional Learning and Service Learning. We would like a teacher who wants to engage in school life and culture. The school offers small class sizes, teaching assistants, a supportive environment, true dedication to professional growth, and an innovative approach to learning. 

In addition to curriculum planning and whole-group/small group instruction, our teachers are expected to differentiate the curriculum and accommodate students with specific learning needs/strengths.  Collaboration with colleagues and productive connections with parents - including parent newsletters, emails, phone calls, and report cards with personalized narratives are also important expectations. Teachers are responsible for some coverage of Recess/PE, and participation in Open House, Professional Growth Days, and Parent-Teacher Conferences. We seek outstanding candidates of all backgrounds.

Desired Qualifications:

 · A Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree and/or credential is preferred 

 · A minimum of two years teaching experience 

· A passion for working with students with a range of abilities, learning styles, and multiple intelligences. Experience teaching a differentiated, student-centered curriculum is preferred

 · Proven success and enthusiasm for working constructively with parents 

· Experience creating a nurturing, mutually respectful environment both in the classroom and with colleagues and administrators 

 · Effective classroom management, assessment, and organization skills 

 · Experience and success collaborating with other teachers in a team setting and embracing a culture of ongoing professional growth

 · Excellent written and oral communication skills 

· Experience using Readers and Writers Workshop, Responsive Classroom, Toolbox and Eureka Math (or a willingness to learn)

Benefits & Compensation:

1.    Compensation: $52,500 to $76,000 commensurate with experience
