7th Grade Science Teacher

Contra Costa Jewish Day School is a K-8 independent school with approximately 170
students, accredited by the California Association of Independent Schools and the
Western Association of Schools and Colleges. We are seeking a part-time 7th Grade
Science teacher. The position is available immediately.
CCJDS offers small class sizes, a supportive environment, true dedication to

planning and whole-group/small group instruction, our teachers are expected to
differentiate the curriculum and accommodate students with specific learning
needs/strengths. Productive and frequent connections with parents - including monthly
parent newsletters, emails, phone calls, and mid and end of semester report cards - and
collaboration with colleagues are also important expectations. We seek candidates who
want to engage in school life and culture. Our priority is hiring the best candidate

Middle School Science Teaching Responsibilities
Implement our established 7th grade science curriculum with a focus on inquiry, labs and project-based work. The primary focus of the 7th grade science curriculum is life science.
Use a variety of curriculum materials, including the Full Option Science System (FOSS)
Provide students with timely feedback on written assignments, including formative and summative assessments, science notebooks, and projects
Write student narratives for progress reports and report cards
Communicate with parents about student progress
Desired Qualifications
BA degree or higher with a science focus
Experience teaching science at the middle or high school level
Experience working with middle school students in some capacity (teaching, tutoring, coaching, etc)
Effective interpersonal and organizational skills
Success collaborating with others in a team setting and embracing a culture of ongoing professional growth
Excellent written and oral communication skills

This is a 22-25% exempt position, Monday-Thursday. The school has some flexibility to
schedule classes based on applicant’s availability. Salary is paid semi-monthly based
on an hourly rate of $29-$40/hour, commensurate with experience.
