6th-8th Grade ELA
Mission Dolores Academy • San Francisco
Mission Dolores Academy prides itself on its academic excellence as we work to prepare our students to become conscientious and productive members of the community. Mission Dolores Academy is an independent (non-Archdiocese) Catholic K-8 school that serves 190 students, the vast majority of whom come from under-resourced families. MDA was founded on the principles of academic excellence, lifelong learning, and social emotional education. Note: ALL ARE WELCOME HERE. You do not need to be Catholic or religious to apply.
MDA welcomes students with learning differences, working to officially identify and accommodate those with a processing deficit, ADHD, or speech and language impairment. Through our partnership with the UCSF Dyslexia Center, Samuel Merritt Department of Occupational Therapy, the San Francisco Unified School District Private/Parochial Assessment Department, and Jennifer Katz, Inc., we seek to be able to accommodate learning needs at every grade level through both pull-out intervention and within the general education classroom. Our Learning Lab, which encompasses Reading, Math, and Speech and Language Pathology (and the requisite specialists), works to identify at-risk learners and begins research-based interventions as early as Quarter One in Kindergarten.
Academic Program: In partnership with its families, Mission Dolores Academy strives to nurture academic excellence in each student, cultivating an environment that supports its scholars in becoming insightful, informed, and compassionate young adults. The school seamlessly combines the traditional with the innovative as it helps to develop confident lifelong learners. MDA’s curriculum is Common Core Standards-based and our foundational reading program is grounded in the Science of Reading. Additionally, all K-3 teachers are trained in the Orton-Gillingham method.
Prep time: positions includes very generous prep time (approximately 8-9 hours per week)
